Wetsuweten Vision Statement

This statement was developed in 1994 when the Wet’suwet’en Chiefs chose to establish their own office. A series of community discussions with a facilitator established this vision and strategic goals which provides the foundational roots for the existence of our office and the governance of our Nation.

Strategic Goals

  • To ensure a self reliant nation.
  • To ensure an effective, responsive, and accountable infrastructure.
  • To ensure continual and effective communications.
  • To ensure responsible jurisdiction of the resources for equitable and sustainable use.
  • To ensure effective financial management.
  • To ensure governance model based upon the solid foundation or our hereditary system.

Strategic Approach

Based on our values and respect, for each other, the land and the animals, the Chiefs instruct that co-existance must be based recognition, respect, and reconciliation. All negotiations are based on . .

Recognition of

... our history,

...our lands,

...our harmful past, and

...the imbalance of power.

Respect of

... our government,

... our relationship to the land, and

... our differences.

Reconciliation to

... bridge our differences and

... establish a new relationship.
