Wet’suwet’en Territory (Smithers, B.C.)
The Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs have been in discussions with the Province of British Columbia over the course of 2 days to seek a peaceful resolution of the enforcement of the injunction for Coastal GasLink. The mediator was in contact with CGL during these discussions to inform them of a potential outcome with the Province.
The Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs proposed the “Wiggus Development Process” (Mutually respectful engagement process) between the Province of British Columbia and Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs.
During this discussion with the Province of British Columbia, Coastal GasLink agreed not to enforce the injunction for a period of 7 days.
Coastal GasLink declined to see this discussion resulting in progress. Therefore, the enforcement of the injunction zone is imminent.
The Wet’suwet’en Hereditary chiefs remain committed to the Wiggus Development Process and will continue discussions with the Province of British Columbia.
Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs concerns are that safety be a priority for all Wet’suwet’en.
