Wet’suwet’en Trust
The Office of the Wet'suwet'en is a public body performing a function of government in Canada as defined under paragraph 149(1)(c) of the Income Tax Act (Canada).
On behalf of itself and the Clans of the Wet'suwet'en people the Office of the Wet'suwet'en has negotiated and settled impact benefit agreements.
On behalf of itself and the Clans of the Wet'suwet'en people the Office of the Wet'suwet'en will negotiate further agreements with other commercial parties and governments which will generate revenue from such commercial parties and governments ("Future Payments).
The Office of the Wet'suwet'en and the Clans desire to establish an irrevocable Trust Fund to hold, invest and administer the Impact Benefit Payments and Future Payments for the long-term benefit of the Office of the Wet'suwet'en and the Clans and the Wet'suwet'en people.
The estblishment and formation of the Trust and Trust Fund have been approved by the Office of the Wet'suwet'en, the Clans and the Wet'suwet'en people.
It is the intention of the Settlor that all distributions from the Trust Fund to the Office of the Wet'suwet'en and the Clans will be used by the Office of the Wet'suwet'en to promote, encourage and develop the cultural, social economic and civic improvements of the Clans and the Wet'suwet'en people in perpetuity.
